Verse 33 — The Fickle Nature of the Mind

“Shaking, unstable, difficult to guard and restrain, the mind is straightened by the wise one, as a fletcher straightens a crooked arrow.”

Practice Peacefully

Observe without judgment the incessant leaping of your thoughts from one object to another. Feel the mind's natural tendency to contract or to scatter. Like a craftsman, bring the mind back to its axis with gentle firmness. Use the inhalation to lengthen the spine and the exhalation to settle yourself. Correct the deviation as soon as it appears, without anger or impatience.
