Grounding in the Body (Sati)
Kāyagatāsati & Havening Touch Technique
1. Welcome & Orientation
Welcome to Day 3. You are developing real observational clarity. Today, we examine the ultimate antidote to anxiety: bodily awareness (Sati). Stress feeds on future forecasting. The body can only exist here and now. Returning to the body cuts off the fuel supply of stress.
2. Buddhist Wisdom & Understanding
Canon Source Teaching: Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 22)
In the Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta, the Buddha teaches that mindfulness established in the body is the safest refuge: 'Just as a dense wooden box cannot be easily pierced, a mind anchored in the body cannot be destabilized by contrary winds.'
« Whoever keeps the body as an intimate friend fears not the storms of thought. »
— Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 22)
The mind is an engine for generating scenarios. Unfortunately, the brain cannot distinguish an imagined fear from a physical predator. By redirecting attention to physical sensations, we compel the brain to register that, *in this exact moment*, there is no imminent mortal danger.
